What is a Surveillance Officer?

Within Security a Surveillance Operatives role is to gather intelligence and evidence covertly by using various techniques and equipment.

A Surveillance role can also be used within various enforcement sectors such as the Police, or in other sectors like Government departments and private investigations.

They will gather information and intelligence in various forms on a person, or group of people, for example, a Government department like the DWP may employ a surveillance operative to gather intelligence on a person who is making a false claim indicating they cannot walk properly due to an injury received.

The surveillance will entail following the person over a period of time and days to ascertain if that information is true or not, or to gain information and intelligence to disprove that claim.

Surveillance operatives are trained to be discreet and covert as to not draw attention to themselves, and can work along or as part of a dedicated surveillance team.

They will have resources on hand such as vehicles, change of clothing, props, and will be trained to a high standard to obtain that intelligence in both a legal and proper way.

There are a few courses available for anyone wishing to become a Surveillance Operative, and here at Nationwide Academy we run a 2-week course based on the role and techniques used within surveillance.
