Level 3 Certificate for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry

This regulated qualification is ideal for anyone wishing to work as a Close Protection Operative as it provides them with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for an SIA licence. This qualification is supported by both the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and Skills for Security (SFS). Subjects covered include threat and risk assessment, legislation relevant to the role, walking drills, embus and debus, incident management, surveillance and operational planning.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

This qualification must be undertaken over a minimum of 18-days, over 4-weeks.

Does this qualification include the mandatory First Aid?

Yes a two day First Aid at Work qualification will be included within this course and will be conducted on the two days prior to the course commencing as per awarding bodies and the SIA guidelines.

How is the qualification assessed?

It is divided into 7-units and is assessed by the following methods:

Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Close Protection Operative in the Private Security Industry

Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 52-questions, 80-minute duration, 70% pass mark. Externally set and internally assessed open-response questions and internally set and internally assessed practical tasks. 

Unit 2: Working as a Close Protection Operative in the Private Security Industry

Externally set workbook, internally assessed. 

Unit 3: Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry

Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 20-questions, 30-minute duration, 70% pass mark.

Unit 4:  Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry

Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 10-questions, 20-minute duration, 70% pass mark.

Unit 5: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry

Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 29-questions, 45-minute duration, 72% pass mark.

Unit 6: Application of Physical Intervention Skills for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry

Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 30-questions, 45-minute duration, 80% pass mark. Also, question and answer session recorded, and practical assessments on techniques recorded.

Unit 7: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry

Externally set and externally assessed MCQ paper with 30-questions, 45-minute duration, 80% pass mark. Also, questions and answer session recorded, and practical assessments on techniques recorded.

Other Unit: First Aid at Work Qualification

Externally set and Internally assessed, MCQ paper with 30-questions, 45-minute duration, 70% pass mark. Also, practical assessments, some recorded, based on First Aid.
